Why choose me?

Sam Catchpole

Personal Trainer, aspiring strongperson, wannabe superhero.

So who am I and more importantly why should you pick me to train you?

Well, I have a list of qualifications in exercise techniques and equipment…but so have most of the other trainers out there, so what makes me different?

Apart from the hair, unlike a lot of trainers out there I am still on my fitness journey (bleugh, fitness journey is a terrible phrase, but it works for now). I started out 7 years ago, not fit, not really happy with myself and I set about changing that.

So now is where you are expecting to see some progress photos, or possibly hear me talking about progressing towards my fitness and / or body weight ultimate goals.

But there will be none of that here. Or not in the traditional way. The think I have really learned throughout this journey is that there is no destination. Fitness is something that you work on and then decide to go a different way and so you work on a different aspect. No matter who you are, your fitness levels, interests and motivations will change. This is probably even true of Olympic athletes, but I can’t swear to that!

Way back when I started this, I wrote the following:

I started 2013, unfit, very overweight, comfort eating my heart out and pretending that it was all not as bad as all that. I hid my denial under mountains of haribo and kettlechips, the excuses were piling up around me; I was too tired, I was hungry while I was driving, I went to the gym sometimes so it was ok right? No matter what I told myself, things were far from ok!
I can’t say exactly what sparked the decision to change, it had been brewing for a while. Despite attempts at pretending otherwise, I knew what I was doing to myself. So here is how I changed…I pledged to do at least 30 mins of exercise every day for a full year. That was it, that was the only promise I made. But to help me do it, I started a blog to keep me accountable. As I exercised every day, I grew to like it more and more…I tried new things, tried things I hadn’t done for years, I took on challenges and above all I felt myself getting fitter and fitter!About 3 weeks into the challenge, I realised there really was no point in doing this sort of exercise if I wasn’t prepared to change my diet too. I cut the snack and the junk and adopted a sensible healthy eating plan…no “diets” not fads just healthy food!

Now, I am here 7 years later I genuinely love exercise and I am much happier with myself but not for the reasons I thought when I started. I didn’t reach a mythical goal weight or fitness level and suddenly everything was ok. What I gained was an understanding of my body and what it can do and how fitness levels and abilities are not as tied to weight as a lot of the world would have you believe. My weight fluctuates with mood and with stress and sometimes with the day of the week and I am learning to accept that. Don’t get me wrong, I have my moments when I want to dive right back in to restrictive diets, but ultimately I know this is not right for me.

Anyway, I can pull a truck now, that is definitely something to be proud of!

If you are looking for a trainer who not only understands what it is like to want and need to change their lifestyle completely, but has proven that they can do it themselves, then that is me. A trainer that focuses on fitness above all else, and uses this to help you attain your goals!

I would love to help you train in your own home or at a local sports ground in the fresh air! I believe that anything is possible, and that there is a method of training and exercise that suits everyone, it is just a matter of finding what you love!

Don’t worry, you won’t start out with pulling trucks, it is not for everyone. We can try out a variety of different exercises and training methods until we find the movement that makes you happy!
